This year we are celebrating Chartered Week between 23-27 February 2026. The purpose of this week is to celebrate Chartered practice and the professionals and organisations that aim to raise and promote higher standards of competence and ethics not only within the professional environment but also across society.
The theme of the week is “Celebrating Trusted Professionals”. Trust is a vital component of the legal sector. Our professionals at GWCA Solicitors recognise that clients need to feel able to trust the professionals they engage to be able to handle matters that may have arisen at a stressful time such as moving house or engaging in litigation matters.
In the legal sector, Chartered professionals attain their qualifications through the professional body called CILEX. Once a Chartered professional attains their qualifications, they must adhere to the CILEX code of practice. This code highlights that carrying out work in the legal sector carries a set of responsibilities.
There are three main requirements for Chartered professionals as set out in the CILEX code of conduct:
- Develop and use your professional knowledge and skills for the benefit of those who use your services
Our chartered professionals have a wealth of knowledge in their respective areas of law. This acquired knowledge is deployed to further your desired aims. The Chartered professional can steer you through what may appear a complicated legal process, using their skills to achieve the best possible outcome for you.
- Maintain good professional relationships with others
One of the keys to achieving the best possible outcome is establishing good professional relationships. This can manifest itself through good communication between the professional and their client to ensure that the professional is working towards the client’s best outcome. This can also be between two different legal professionals. This is important in matters such as conveyancing where you need to know that your legal professional is communicating effectively with our professionals to progress your case.
- Act in a way that promotes confidence and trust in the legal
We understand that when you require legal services, you need to have confidence that your needs will be met in what is likely to be a stressful time. Our Chartered professionals understand that their actions represent the legal profession as a whole and seek to maintain a high level of trust in the profession.
By adhering to these three requirements as well as upholding the entirety of CILEX’s code of conduct, our professionals promote a way of working that ensures accountability for their work and fostering a reliability on the legal sector.
Our Chartered professionals are also required to uphold the responsibilities as set out in the legal services act 2007 which applies to all legal professionals including the Solicitors at GWCA. This act sets out that professionals should act with integrity, maintain proper standards of work, act in the best interests of their client, act in the interest of justice, and keep the affairs of their client confidential.
By engaging with one of our Chartered professionals you can be reassured that you will receive a service that is professional, ethical and accountable. Chartered professional at GWCA aspire to uphold these ethical standards and by doing so, ensure you receive the best possible service.
